Role
Scalpel is looking for a Surgical Inventory Champion with knowledge and expertise in handling various surgical instruments, sharps, and consumables to support Scalpel's cutting-edge AI platform.
You will be part of a collaborative and growing team. As a Surgical Inventory Champion, you will be performing an innovative field-based role involving a significant amount of time in sterilisation units, operating rooms, and hospitals. Based in/around London with some national travel as required.

Responsibilities
Scalpel's AI platform identifies surgical inventory, in realtime, without tags. As a Surgical Inventory Champion, you will champion our product and play a key role in various phases of product development and customer engagement at Scalpel. You should be comfortable picking up any surgical instrument and knowing what it is and where it will be used.

Specific jobs:
  • Support data capture in live Operating Rooms and Central Sterile Service Divisions(SSDs).
  • Annotate datasets to identify and name surgical tools in images.
  • Update and maintain Scalpel's surgical instrument tracking system
  • Collect insights and feedback from users in hospitals and sterilisation units.
As part of our product team, you will work alongside engineers and data scientists, giving you the opportunity to learn new skills. Your contribution will be towards a pipeline of our products that will improve digital tools in the operating room, and facilitate better and safer surgeries.

Ideal candidate
A scrub nurse who worked in various operating rooms or a Sterile Service Technician who worked in-house or with multiple hospitals is ideal. We're looking for candidates who can name a good number of surgical instruments while understanding the nuances in identifying these objects.

Eligibility
You have working experience as a Theatre Nurse or Sterile Service Technician.
Essential Criteria
  • Ability to name surgical instruments from a wide variety of sets
  • At least 2 years of demonstrable success in an OR environment or SSDs
  • Detailed understanding of the medical devices market
  • Goal-oriented and structured working style
  • High willingness to travel (overnight stays as required)
Desirable Criteria:
  • Open communication style
  • Ability to quickly develop strong customer relationships
  • High degree of intellectual curiosity
  • Experience of leading product standardisation projects
